Summer vacation is something that excites every child, but what if they are diagnosed with the condition that affects or can affect their mobility in the long run?
Human mobility is highly dependent on the spine, and a scoliosis diagnosis can be gruesome for children who love to stay active. We recently treated one such case of a 12-year-old girl with progressive kyphoscoliosis wherein the abnormal spinal curve worsens with time.
During the early consultation, we had detailed interactions with the parents. We learned about her medical history of progressive kyphoscoliosis, the symptoms of which were first noticed at the very young age of 4. Untreated for long, her case was now with the best spine doctor in Ahmedabad – Dr Tarak Patel. The image below represents her condition before treatment.
After performing various diagnostic tests, including an abdomen ultrasound and 2d echocardiogram, we found that the young one was not suffering from other congenital problems related to any syndrome or system.
The next step was to decide on the plan for her scoliosis treatment in Ahmedabad. Considering her condition, surgical treatment was imperative to prevent the progression of scoliosis in the child. After careful analysis and discussion with the child’s parents, a successful hemivertebra excision, unilateral fixation, and fusion surgery were done with good kyphoscoliosis correction. The whole complex surgical procedure was made simpler and 100% precise by Dr Tarak Patel’s experience in the field and with help of high end technologies like intraoperative OARM and Navigation.
After the surgery, the girl was able to mobilize from the first day actively. The child is happy, and so are we.
At last, the surgery was successful, and cases like these make us reflect upon our reasons for choosing this profession and experiencing the sheer joy of giving people the virtue that is good health.
